Sewing Using Fleece Fabric
Sunday, June 12th, 2011Fleece fabric is easy to work and sew. Once you have purchased fleece fabric by the yard, there are tips and basic information that you will find useful in order to be able to sew the fabric.
There is need to get used to the thickness of the fabric that will make you find sewing with the fabric much easier. The best part about sewing with the fabric is you will not have to finish the edges, you will not have to line it, and you do not have to interface it. You can easily determine the right side of the fabric by gently pulling along the selvage and it will automatically roll to the right side. After this identification, you can mark the wrong side with chalk so as not to get confused when sewing.
When selecting patters, ensure that you choose loose fitting styles, with simple lines and few details. The fabric should be cut using the nap layouts to avoid getting different shades when sewing the garment. Only scissors or a rotary tracker is advised for cutting the fabric. Needles on the other hand need to be selected according to the thickness of the fabric. The needles need not to be old as they will be a sure source of problems. A thread that is 100% polyester will help in making the sewing project a complete success. The sewing machine must be in perfect shape before starting on the project.
Fleece fabric needs no pressing using an iron, as finger pressing is more than sufficient. When forced to use an iron, a pressing cloth should be on top to avoid direct contact between the iron and fleece fabric. The beauty of the fabric is that it does not require finishing as it does not ravel. However, to achieve a professional look, you can cut the edges using a shear. A beautiful cloth can come out with only the use of fleece fabric by the yard.
